Barcelona beat Manchester United in a final where the Catalans dominated the British (3-1). The victory consolidates Barça as the best team out there. Pedro, Leo Messi and David Villa certified Barça’s win with their goals.
Champion of champions. Barça have won their fourth Champions League at the legendary Wembley Stadium
– where they managed to win the first 19 years ago – after beating Manchester United (3-1) and confirming that it is currently the best team in the world.
Ten minutes after the starting whistle is all the British team had offer. The kick-off of the ‘Red Devils’ was overwhelming, a suffocating pressure to reach the goal protected by Victore Valdés. Barca went to sleep, perhaps impressed by the strength of his rival, played by Park who ate Alves in his band.
But it was that, ten minutes. A mirage for the British team, because from that point on, Barcelona took the ball and would not let go of it for the remaining 80 minutes. Xavi and Messi took over the midfield against a team that did not bite and that was completely overcome.
Chances began to happen for the Catalans. A shot from Villa was slightly off, two raids from Pedro and several long dribbles from Messi did not conclude successfully and were only the prelude to the goal. A perfect ball, as usual from Xavi Hernandez, left only to Pedro, who defined a master – and the party had started.
The end seemed decanted, with a far superior team who was ahead in the scoreboard. But the last thing the Red Devils will loose is their pride. In an isolated play, Barça lost the ball where where they shouldn’t have and Wayne Rooney tied the game after a great play between him and Giggs (in which the Welshman appeared to be offside). The tie that came with the break was not fair, there was only one team at Wembley.
And the second part was an undisputed monologue from the team managed by Pep Guardiola. For many many years not seen such superiority in the final of the Champions League. The United did not smell the ball and could not believe the avalanche of Barcelona’s game.
With so much superiority, it was impossible not presence more goals. Leo Messi scored the second goal after a long shot from outside the box which was out of Van der Sar’s reach.
The game was totally broken in favor of Barcelona and it was the time to sentence it. Another shot from outside the box, this time from David Villa, left almost doomed the final after 68 minutes of play.
The United wanted to react, but could not. Their football was much weaker than Barca’s. Futbol Club Barcelona conquered their fourth European Champion League and becomes one of the worl’s greats.
